I love checking in and playing the “game” with friends.

Case in point: Last night at dinner my dinner date and I sat down at 10 Downing for dinner. We started chatting and both of us immediately said “We have to check in!” I grabbed my Blackberry. She grabbed her iPhone. Done. Next bar we went to: same thing. Did the bartender eye us weird? Absolutely.

What I also use FourSquare for is a reminder of where I went that week so I can Yelp it. It would be great if Foursquare and Yelp synced up so I get a reminder (similar to OpenTable) asking me how the restaurant/bar/park was.

Being one to ask for customer service/features openly—I posted this thought. And, because the guys at FourSquare rock and answer replies all the time I received a message this morning that FourSquare is “playing with some of these next-morning reminders for things like Tips and To-Dos. Stay tuned…”

Awesome.

That said, that relationship had nothing to do with what I attended today so no nonsense about hyping up a client. K?

I was online (shocker) on Twitter (bigger shocker) the other night while working on some late night work and emails. I saw Anthony DeRosa post an interesting tweet about free tickets to Citi Field for the opening game on Monday for the first 100 people to respond to the Mets Blog. Umm…sure. Why not. Not thinking anything of it, I moved on. Then Friday I get an email congratulating me on my win for free tickets to CitiField Monday to watch a live broadcast of the game from the Pepsi Porch. FOR. FREE.

Boo. Yah.

A simple partnership with the NY Mets, Pepsi and an extremely popular blog brought in a quick amount of folks driving to the site to get tickets. My good buddy Steve Badowski joined me for the day where we traveled in the rain to Citi Field, entered the back entrance greeted by smiling Pepsi employees and were on our way. (I found it that day that many of the guests were in fact Pepsi employees—what a perk!) While we couldn’t watch the game outside on the Jumbotron from the porch, we did enjoy a large variety of snacks in the Caesar’s Lounge watching it on the flat screens, free beers and a chance to meet legendary Met Mookie Wilson. It was fantastic.

Overall—amazing event and thanks again!

I remember seeing Fraser present Glue at the NY Tech Meetup last year and I “got” what they were saying. Maybe it was the presentation, or maybe it was just the easy way of showcasing what Glue does. I signed up immediately and when I didn’t use it as much as I should, I got a quick email from Fraser encouraging me to try it more. I loved that and instantly jumped on the Glue bandwagon. (Side note: Fraser and I emailed back and forth about the product and then realized a few months later that we were playing on the same indoor soccer team. SMALL WORLD.)

For those who don’t know, Glue enables you to connect with your friends on the web around the things you visit online. Glue is powered by semantic recognition technology that automatically identifies books, music, movies, wines, stocks, movie stars, recording artists, and more. Glue works hard to make it easy for you to find out what your friends think about things you’re visiting online.

So, when I visit my favorite sites like Facebook, Yelp, Twitter—a little screen pops down at the top (it’s not annoying…at all) and if a friend has signed up for Glue, their recent browsing history on similar sites shows what they’ve been looking at. From TV shows on Hulu to mp3s they have browsed on Amazon to MacBooks on the Apple Store—the list goes on in the library of recently browsed items that they then explain.

Why is this great? Well, while many people are avid bloggers, reviewers, Yelpers—some aren’t. But, I’m still interested in what they’re looking at on the web. Glue makes this happen. By installing the Glue application to your browser (Firefox only) you give permission to Glue to share your information. Plus, you can limit what you have users see and control privacy issues. If you don’t want something to be shared, you can delete it too.

I could keep explaining it but the best way to actually “get” a technology like this is sign up and interact with it on a daily basis. So do it.

Today though a special round of congrats goes to the Adaptive Blue Team for the release of a new update to Glue. Now you can discuss the books, music, and movies with your friends across the web. In the new “Glue for You” section, you can find lists of books, music, movies and other everyday things that are popular with your friends. I’ve been playing around with features and love it already. It’s basically a super simple way to share what you’re looking at on the web with your friends.

Congrats!

Bonus: Adaptive Blue and team organize weekly giveaways using the Glue product and Twitter. Follow @glue_genie for the updates and rules. If you’re interested in Glue or Adaptive Blue, I also reccomend following Fraser Kelton (@fraser) and Alex Iskold (@alexiskold)

Additional Bonus: I received some cool Glue stickers about a month ago from the Adaptive Blue team. I owed them a picture so here it is.

As follow up to “2008 The recap”, I thought I’d share what I’m hoping for in 2009…for myself. Over the past few weeks I’ve had discussions about predictions for tech, PR, social media, my personal life…and then I stop. You can’t predict anything, but you can make some guesses. You can say what you hope for. What would make 2009 a success for YOU.

So, without further adieu I present to you my hopes for 2009 for myself.

I hope that…

-I’ll be happy 99% of the time.
-I’ll stop worrying about silly things. It’s a waste of time.
-I’ll find my voice in this world.
-I’ll do big things for Carrot Creative.
-I’ll settle down a bit.
-I’ll be inspired.
-I inspire.
-I make mistakes.
-I learn from my mistakes.
-I feel healthy.
-I meet more smart people.
-I play more sports-I miss doing it.
-I keep my head clear.
-I appreciate New York City more and see what I’ve been missing.
-I do something memorable.
-I take more pictures.
-I leave room for the unexpected…

And with that…Happy New Years Everyone! See you in 2009.
